Jurisdiction filing
Code of Alabama § 12-11-03

The District Court has jurisdiction of all civil actions in which the matter in controversy exceeds six thousand dollars ($6,000.00) and less than twenty thousand dollars ($20,000.00) exclusive of interest and costs.

To file a District Civil claim, complete the appropriate claim form and file with the clerk, along with the filing fee (or Affidavit of Hardship). Forms are available in the clerk’s office or online at the links below. The process is similar to the Small Claims process. Fees are more for a District Civil claim.

Another type of District Civil case is an Eviction proceeding or Unlawful Detainer case.

See our Small Claims page for information on the process and the procedure for collection of a judgment.
